Money Images Could Make You Money
I've always wanted to be a photographer. A good photographer. A professional. World renowned. But, I never studied. I just dinked around with my point-and-shoot, taking pictures of flowers, friends and our cat, who almost always looks (and is) grumpy. And when he's grumpy, he's really photogenic.
It's not too late to study to become a professional, but I'm not sure that's my goal anymore. Now I'd like to take pictures that might sell, and some pictures of things that won't.
Besides our grumpy cat, my favorite thing to photograph is my husband. I love to take pictures of him in all kinds of different states and poses. I think these photos are beautiful and the best pictures ever, but I'm guessing no one else will like them as much as me.
There are all kinds of subjects that will sell though. There are stock image sites online that allow you to advertise your picture on their site in exchange for a fee. These sites have hundreds of categories of images, photographs, film clips and illustrations for sale. For instance, there are lion pictures and money images, pictures of earth and pictures of babies.
Luckily, my third favorite thing to photograph are pictures of money. In order to find out what type of pictures of money are the biggest seller, I Googled a few stock image sites and searched under the word “money”. I was surprised by what I found. I expected to see images of dollar bills, of people buried in money or a lucky penny on a street. Instead, I found pictures of calculators and fancy business type ink pens. I found blank street signs where the purchaser of the illustration could input the name of their choice, like “Money Ave” or “Dollar Drive”. I found bags of money and a scale that weighs gold.
It was good I did my homework; otherwise I would have submitted the type of image I thought the site wanted, versus what they really did want.
